Join acclaimed ocean artist Wade Koniakowsky for a special two-day painting workshop in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island, hosted at the newly opened Montanaro Fine Art on historic Bellevue Avenue.
This intimate workshop is designed for beginning through intermediate painters, as well as experienced artists looking to strengthen their understanding of ocean movement, light, atmosphere, and coastal composition.
Day One — The Fundamentals of Wave Painting
The first day will focus on Wade’s renowned approach to wave painting — exploring the moving bands of energy and light that make waves such a compelling subject. Students will learn essential concepts including wave structure, translucency, foam patterns, color temperature, atmospheric perspective, and techniques for creating believable movement and depth. Wade will share the same foundational principles he has developed through decades of painting and teaching ocean subjects.
Day Two — Newport Nautical Scene
The second day shifts focus toward capturing the unique nautical beauty of Newport. Students will work from reference material inspired by Newport Harbor and the surrounding coastal environment, learning how to simplify complex marine scenes while creating strong compositions filled with mood, light, and coastal character.
Throughout the workshop, Wade will provide demonstrations, individualized instruction, discussions on color mixing and composition, and insight into his professional painting process.
Whether your goal is to improve your technical painting skills, deepen your understanding of coastal subjects, or simply spend two inspiring mornings immersed in creativity, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to study with one of today’s most recognized ocean painters.
