Sayulita, A Tropical Paradise. Sayulita boasts a rich cultural scene, with colorful buildings, local markets, and traditional and exotic restaurants. With golden sands and clear turquoise waters, Sayulita's beaches are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. Additionally, a diverse ecosystem has fostered a tapestry of natural wonders in Sayulita. From colorful marine and wildlife, to unusual birds and butterflies, to interesting flora and trees. Sea exploration reveals pods of wild dolphins and giant manta rays, tropical fish in every color and migrating humpback whales. About 25 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, it’s only a 50-minute drive to the resort town’s main entrance.
Casa Kukana. Our painting retreat will be held at Casa Kukana, a Bungalow retreat hotel nestled in the hills above Sayulita just a short walk from the town center. The quiet, peaceful property features lush gardens, a natural stone pool, and spaces designed for relaxation and inspiration.
About Your Painting Teacher. Wade Koniakowsky is one of the nation’s leading ocean-inspired artists. Wade began painting at the age of six and started surfing when he was 12. By blending these two passions, he has gained worldwide recognition for his oil paintings of tropical settings. Wade was selected by Vans as the artist of the 2018 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the event that culminates the WSL surfing world tour. He has taught painting workshops for the last 13 years.
Our studio will be outdoors with an ocean view.
Students to bring their own supplies: paint, canvas, and brushes. A supply list will be sent upon signing up. Acrylic paint only please. Easels will be provided.
Our focus will be local ocean inspired tropical scenes and waves. A typical day will include 3 + hours (12:30-4:00pm) of painting instruction. Suitable for all levels.
Cost. 5 Days painting $640. USD includes lunch daily, local cuisine prepared on site.
Workshop class sizes are limited to 12 students maximum per day.
Accommodations. Attendees are ultimately responsible for their own accommodations. However, we have some rooms being held for us at Casa Kukana (where the daily painting workshops take place). We strongly encourage booking a room at Casa Kukana simply for convenience of staying where we will be painting daily + it is tranquil and stunning.
