 Painting in Kaneohe, Oahu: 

May 2-4, 11-3pm

Day 1 and 2 - Wave Painting

A step by step, deep dive into painting waves realistically. Students will learn to render spray, froth, backlight and all fundamentals, tips and tricks of wave painting.

Day 3 - Tropical Scenes 

The last day, we will delve into painting a lush, tropical scene. (NOTE: You can elect to spend the last day on Waves). It’s been said about Wade’s tropical paintings, “Wade Koniakowsky’s focus is capturing Polynesian dreamscapes and the related emotional tie we have with far away lands. About Your Painting Teacher. Wade Koniakowsky is one of the nation’s leading ocean-inspired artists. Wade began painting at the age of six and started surfing when he was 12. By blending these two passions, he has gained worldwide recognition for his oil paintings of tropical settings. Wade was selected by Vans as the artist of the 2018 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the event that culminates the WSL surfing world tour. He has taught painting workshops for the last 10 years.

Art Supplies: Students need to bring their own supplies. We will provide supply list (See photos) and one will be emailed to you upon sign up.

Cost: $625 for 3 days of painting. Light refreshments will be provided.

Workshop class sizes are limited to 10 students.

  • Daniel K. Inouye International Airport: 12 miles, approximately 30 minutes during non-rush hour
  • Downtown Honolulu: 13 miles, approximately 30 minutes during non-rush hour

Tourist attractions: 

  • Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden | On 400 green acres in Kaneohe, Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden is the largest of several public botanical gardens across the island. Ho’omaluhia provides epic views of the Koolau Mountains, trails, fishing and campsites. People like to pose on the palm-tree-lined road heading into the park for social media-worthy photos!
  • The Sandbar | The town of Kaneohe as well as MCBH are right on the turquoise blue Kaneohe Bay, which has the largest saltwater sandbar in the world. People kayak or take larger boats out to enjoy snorkeling, picnics and games. It’s like being on the beach in the middle of the bay. The sandbar’s Hawaiian name is Ahu O Laka, and from it you can also see small islets including Mokoli’i, Chinaman’s Hat, off the coast.
  • Byodo-In Temple | The Byodo-In Temple, located at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, welcomes people of all faiths to worship, meditate or simply appreciate its beauty and history as a non-practicing Buddhist temple. Built in 1963, the Byodo-In Temple is a Hawaii state landmark and one of the states’s best kept secrets.
