Painting in Kula, Maui:

May 8-10, 11-3pm

Day 1 and 2 - Wave Painting

A step by step, deep dive into painting waves realistically. Students will learn to render spray, froth, backlight and all fundamentals, tips and tricks of wave painting.

Day 3 - Tropical Scenes

The last day, we will delve into painting a lush, tropical scene. (NOTE: You can elect to spend the last day on Waves). It’s been said about Wade’s tropical paintings, “Wade Koniakowsky’s focus is capturing Polynesian dreamscapes and the related emotional tie we have with far away lands. His vibe intersects with those same emotions–unspoiled, nirvana-esque landscapes, islander portraits, and ephemeral visions that make you want to sell it all and travel.” - Jim Moriarty, President of the Surfrider Foundation.

"My teaching is very hands-on. I love painting demos, and I will utilize a step by step approach at times. We generally employ a grid to sketch the scene on the canvas. Throughout the sessions, we continually focus on the fundamentals of color and value, color mixing and drawing. Wave painting is challenging but I patiently go through the steps and very often I'm amazed at the results, even with beginners. Lastly, when painting in the tropics, we make the most of the tropical mood, inspiration and surroundings!" - Wade

About Your Painting Teacher. Wade Koniakowsky is one of the nation’s leading ocean-inspired artists. Wade began painting at the age of six and started surfing when he was 12. Wade was selected by Vans as the artist of the 2018 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the event that culminates the WSL surfing world tour. He has taught painting workshops for the last 10 years.

Cost: $625 for 3 days of painting. Light refreshments will be provided.

Workshop class sizes are limited to 10 students.

Kula, Maui: Painting Workshops take place at a private residence in Kula Maui, on a road called Opalipali Place. There are no tourist accomodations available in Kula, see below for accommodation recommendations.

Accommodations. Attendees will be responsible for their accommodations. When planning for accommodations, we recommend the Kihei area. The workshop location is about 25-30 from Kihei. Even though there are closer cities to the workshop location than Kihei, it will be much easier to find accommodations in Kihei since it is a more touristy area. It is also beautiful! For more information contact Lynn at lynn@koniakowsky.com or call 760-419-6103.

Kahului Aiport is 20 minutes away from Kihei.
